imageJoin us on November 15, 2014 at Marion Therapeutic Riding Association’s Greenway facility as we enjoy a screening of the award winning movie, “Riding My Way Back“, a touching story about a veteran, a horse, and hope.

For $10 admission, you’ll enjoy the movie, a hot dog, drink and popcorn. DOORS OPEN AT 5:00 PM. Tickets are available online here using the link below.

We will also have a very special entertainer, Rev. Tommy Dennis of the Bread of Life Church in Anthony. Tommy has performed on the Opryland stage in the “Country Music USA” revue, where he learned from and met many of the genre’s legendary performers. He later performed on the road with stars such as Minnie Pearl, George Jones, Brenda Lee and Hank Williams Jr. Tommy was also the composer for “You Can’t Fly Like An Eagle,” a charted single for Johnny Lee, who sang “Looking For Love in All The Wrong Places.” Tommy will be performing a selection of Country and christian music for movie goers.

This short documentary about the powerful healing of therapeutic riding for a veteran with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and Traumatic Brain Injury chronicles one soldier’s journey back from the brink of suicide. In 2010, Staff Sergeant Aaron Heliker returned from multiple deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan with a traumatic brain injury (TBI) and Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). At his most desperate and isolated, on 42 medications and suicidal, Aaron is introduced to the unlikeliest of saviours—a horse named Fred. Through caring for Fred, Aaron begins the difficult process of reconnecting to the world around him and healing the invisible wounds of war that nearly defeated him.Riding My Way Back

Producers and directors, Oscar Nominee Robin Fryday, Peter Rosenbaum and Richie Goldman have launched an ambitious program: THE RIDING MY WAY BACK FILM PROJECT. Engaging PATH International (Professional Association of Therapeutic Horsemanship International) centers nationwide, the film will be screened at riding centers, universities, and mental health centers simultaneously during Veteran’s Week 2014. While RIDING MY WAY BACK had its premiere at the GI Film Festival in May 2014, and won The Founders’ Choice Award, the producers of the film are looking at Veteran’s Week 2014 as their national launch, premiering the movie at the Capitol Visitor Center in Washington, DC and at over 75 Equine Centers across the country, including MTRA here in Ocala.

This event is a joint effort between MTRA and Veterans Helping Veterans and we are pleased to bring this award-winning film to Ocala and Marion County. To find out more, visit www.RidingMyWayBack.com. Click here to read about the movie and it’s production.

With this screening, MTRA hopes to bring awareness and support to our MTRA Freedom Reins veteran program, which is still in its earliest stages of development and in need of financial support from the community to properly launch and staff.
