MTRA Riders Shine at State Finals for 2015 Special Olympics!

After months of hard work and a great preliminary Special Olympics Region Games event, MTRA took seven riders and four horses to the very competitive State Finals at the beautiful Grand Oaks Resort in Weirsdale. Congratulations to all riders and instructors on their fabulous medal earnings!

Under the direction of veteran MTRA Instructor Miss Sally Ann Lyle, Roger Wilkie rode Q in the Western. Walk/Trot w/leader division and earned a silver medal in Equitation and fifth in Trail. Blake Meyers and Anna shined in the English Walk/Tot w/spotter, winning their Equitation class gold medal and also receiving a great ribbon in Trail. Also under Sally’s direction, John Peets and Goldie were triumphant in their English Walk Only Assisted, winning their Equitation gold medal and earning a ribbon in Trail as well.

MTRA’s Program Director Terri Libera guided Tammy Venable and Moody to an excellent third place in English Trail Walk Assisted, as well as a fifth in Equitation.

Instructor Jessie Brown had a trio of awesome riders who chalked up medals galore! Mackenzie Robbins and Goldie won a gold medal in English Equitation Walk Only w/spotter and went on to achieve a silver medal in Trail. Jacob Newbern and Q were stars in the English Walk only w/spotter Trail class, earning a gold medal while posting the highest trail score of the 2015 state games at 63 points! Jacob was also fourth in his Equitation class. Sheila Schlemmer and Anna were double Gold winners in the English Independent Walk Only Dressage and Trail, a tremendous accomplishment!

Of course, we couldn’t have done this without our superhuman MTRA volunteers!
