Dr. Shirley Graves Modell is a past President of the Board of Directors of Marion Therapeutic Riding Association and she and her husband, Dr. Jerry Modell, have been long time supporters of the organization. It was always in Shirley’s mind to someday write a book, and fortunately for MTRA, “someday” finally came!
Shirley not only wrote this inspiring book about a wonderful dog and his friend Harley, the therapeutic riding horse, but she coerced her longtime friend, local artist Sally Ann Lyle, to donate the illustration and design for the cover. The graphic design of the book was the talented contribution of Kendra Kuck, who also donated her time. The Modells also paid for the printing of the first 100 copies of this wonderful book, although we hope the demand will mean a reprint in the very near future!
This charming story centers around a real dog in the Modell household, RedDog, and although his story is fictional, his friends and Harley the horse are all real. Assisting Shirley in her endeavor was her many time published author and friend, Shelley Fraser Mickle. Ms. Mickle and her husband Dr. Parker Mickle own Wild Onion Press. Readers from 10 yrs to 100 yrs will enjoy this tongue-in-cheek adventure of two pals and their interesting perspective on life and goals.
