Marion Therapeutic Riding Association is pleased as punch to announce that Larry Woodward is our Volunteer of the Month for January 2015!
After college and the military, Larry taught special education and worked at a residential school for emotionally disturbed boys. Later he became a sportswriter and columnist for a chain of newspapers in New England, which allowed him to travel across the country. His introduction to horses came in 2004 when The Villages Daily Sun asked him to write about polo. His friend, Sheila Rae, suggested that volunteering at MTRA would be a natural mix and he came to the Greenway facility four years ago to offer his services.
“Working with the clients at Greenway has been one of the most rewarding activities in my life,” he said. “There is nothing better than seeing a smile on a child or adult who has achieved something they never thought possible.”
Larry has been a very valuable asset to MTRA as a sidewalker and leader in many of our classes. We are glad he enjoys his work as much as we enjoy having him here!
