Our Horses - The Miracle Makers

MTRA’s horses are not "just horses"
these wonderful creatures are the instruments of
every-day miracles, each with their own
 distinct personality traits and history
MTRA’s program horses are the literal vehicle through which countless miracles happen every day. The bond between horse and client often grows into something so profound, words are sometimes inadequate to explain it.

At MTRA, we know that this bond, combined with the talent of our instructors, is what paves the way for our clients to achieve things never before dreamed possible….Autistic children speaking for the first time in their lives. Stroke victims regaining mobility and control. Adults with MS relaxing the rigidity in their muscles after years of tightness and inflexibility. Paraplegics who regain core strength to become more independent.

That’s why every one of our program horses are treated with the utmost respect and care. The diversity of our program horses is vast, with breeds ranging from a Belgian mare, to Morgans, Paints, an Andalusian—even a Shetland pony. Additionally, each program horse possesses a distinct personality, as unique as the client they will be meticulously matched with. Yet, they all have key traits in common. They are unflappable, gentle, patient and sound.

As our list of clients grows, so must our family of program horses. If you are interested in either sponsoring a horse or donating a horse to MTRA, please contact us.

Allie

Anna

Billie

"Ms.Billie" Spoiled just a bit? Maybe! But she is a very special double registered paint. Billie came to MTRA through our Program Coordinator, Kate Robbins who raised and trained her. Billie relates to her riders in a very special way. Her intelligence and performance is surely a tribute to Kate.

Duke

"Attitude of Service" Mighty and magnificent, this gentle giant will rise to every occasion to be whatever is asked of him. His calm gentle nature reassures every new volunteer and rider. Duke is a very special program horse and loved by everyone.  We are happy to have Duke back with us.

Ginger

Jaeger

"The Jousting Horse" Mighty and magnificent, he does know his strength, but easily surrenders to a gentle command. He is vigilant, responsive and simply a very nice heavy horse. Yeager has the willingness to make him a sound easy ride for those that are led or those that ride independent.

June

"Ambassador of Love" Sweet June is our Big showey Belgium. Her heart has been said to be as big as her size. Definitely a people friendly horse. She loves to be around people and people love to be around her. June carries any rider with dependability and flexability for whatever is required of her.

Misty

Murphy

Q

"Q T Pie" A gorgeous paint, with a lot of interest in what is going on. Very expressive with his handlers and very responsive and friendly with the student rider. Q is a very nice young horse that is always dependable and cooperative. A real 10!

Scooter

Silva

"Our Perfect Paso Fino" Certainly a favorite. Silva will stand forever being fussed with. He loves to be coddled and pampered but not prodded. He is cooperative and willing. Silva’s smooth paso gaite makes him especially desirable as a therapy horse.

Sponsored in memory of Barbara Jarmoluk

Smokey

One of our most handsome horses! Standing 15.2 hands, this jet black is another one of Kate's horses and is as kind as he is pretty. An ex-ranch and barrel Quarter horse from Nebraska, Smokey, has an extraordinarily smooth gait. That gait combined with his caring personality makes him a barn favorite.

Spot

"Mr. Manners" Once a star appaloosa cow pony, now a star therapy horse. Spot is so easy to work with he is very popular with the volunteers. Docile in the stall, showey but gentle with his riders. Just a great horse!

Tuffy

"Mr. T…Black Beauty" Tuffy comes to MTRA as a trained show horse and also drives. He presents himself with enthusiasm and is always willing to please. He is a very special horse that loves people contact and returns affection with gentle nuzzles… referred to as Tuffy kisses. He shows very well with the independent rider.

Wyndsor

Wyndsor the super pony! A beautiful little fella with a fabulous walk. He is great with our small riders or for those that need more support.
